When is Squid Game Season 2 on Netflix?

The second season of Squid Game will be released on Netflix on December 26, 2024. Better buy Netflix gift cards to renew your subscription before then!

What Is Squid Game Season 2 About?

In an emotional message thanking fans and teasing everyone about what’s to come, director Dong-hyuk mentions that season 2 will directly continue the story of the first season with the same protagonist.

We don’t know yet if there will be a time skip, a big gap between the two seasons, or additional main characters, but it seems like we will jump right into the games immediately.

The director also reminded everyone that Seong Gi-hun, our down-on-his-luck protagonist who ultimately came out victorious, promised to exact his revenge on the game’s organizers when season one ended. The director then added that Gi-hun “returns and joins the games again.”

He will also be facing Front Man, the overseer of the games and leader of the Masked Men crew who organizes and sets up the games. By the end of season one, it was revealed that he was the detective’s long-lost brother, who won in the previous games and decided to stay.

So not only is Seong Gi-hun keeping his promise, but he is also willing to go through the nightmarish experience to be true to his word and will be facing a strong opponent! We can only wait with bated breath on what hellish games Director Dong-hyuk and his team are cooking for us.

Will There Be a Season 3? What Will It Be About?

In the very same post made by director Dong-hyuk, he also confirmed that the show will have a third and final season, slated to be released next year.

Seong Gi-hun will continue his fight against the Front Man and the entire organization behind the games. Will he succeed? We just have to wait and see.

What Happened in Season 1?

Three years since season 1, I don’t blame you if you need a refresher! Here’s a summary to jog your memory on what happened in the first season.

Seong Gi-hun is a guy with lots of misfortunes and debts. He gets spotted by a “recruiter” and is invited to play games for a huge cash prize. Blinded by the promise of money, he joins and gets taken to a remote location.

Meanwhile, a young detective tries to find his lost older brother. He eventually finds a trail that leads him to the games that Seong Gi-hun is in.

In the games, hundreds of people compete in life-and-death challenges. Eventually, Seong Gi-hun emerges victorious but is broken by the whole ordeal. He finds out that the old man he partnered in the games with is the founder of the whole event.

The games were created as entertainment for bored and evil wealthy people, which the detective also found out. The detective’s brother was a past winner who became the event’s overseer.

Just as Gi-hun is about to leave for the United States to see his daughter, he sees the man who recruited him talking to a potential participant. Gi-hun chases him and manages to get the recruitment card. He calls the number and demands answers about the games. He hears the Front Man (overseer of the games) tell him to ignore everything and leave to go to his daughter. The season ends with Gi-hun turning around and giving up on his flight instead.

We’ll have to see what he’ll do in season 2. While waiting, renew your Netflix sub from U7BUY, your one-stop shop for affordable streaming gift cards. Here’s how to redeem Netflix gift card so you can renew your sub and rewatch season 1!
